The Society of Curious Entomologists Letter Pack
A chewed leaf. Three tiny holes. A few crumbs on the soil.
Dr Nellie Finch set out to find a beetle, but a mystery in the garden caught her attention first. Now she’s inviting your curious explorer to look a little closer at the insects and clues around them.
This printed letter pack combines Nellie’s story with field notes, illustrated learning pages and an observation mission children can try for themselves. There’s no need to know an insect’s name to begin—just a place to look, a question to ask and something to record.
Inside the pack:
- A double-sided letter from Dr Nellie Finch
- An invitation to join the Society of Curious Entomologists
- Observation Mission 01: Find a Tiny Neighbour
- A blank field observation page and a completed example by Nellie
- Nellie’s tips for spotting insects
- Nellie’s moth observation method
- Five pages from Nellie’s field notebook: the chewed leaf, rhinoceros beetle, purple tarantula, praying mantis and moth observations
- An illustrated butterfly life cycle page
- Four illustrated anatomy pages: caterpillar, rhinoceros beetle, praying mantis and moth
- A printed envelope with Nellie’s portrait and decorative postage stamp artwork
The purple tarantula makes a special appearance in Nellie’s notebook. She points out that it is a spider, not an insect—even an entomologist can be curious about a creature outside her usual field of study!
